Tibetan Herbal Excursion

1.8. Arrival in Leh by flight. Short welcome in the hotel at 16.00. Acclimatisation.
2.8. Acclimatisation; short walk to Leh town according to personal condition
3.8. Visit of the monasteries Shey, Tikse and Hemis
4.8. By bus to Nurla (ca. 3 -4 hr drive), the home village of Tsewang Smanla and the place of his project, "Yuthog foundation for Tibetan medicine". Camp in Yuthog campus
5.8. Short walk to Tar (3 hr) and picnic lunch at Tar.
Evening introduction into fundamentals of Tibetan medicine
6.8. Short walk to Temisgam and picnic lunch. Visit of monastery
7.8. Nurla to Bodh Karbu across Fotel-la pass, 3450 m (6-7 hr by bus)
Collecting plants around Bodh Karbu. Evening Camp
8.8. Bodh Karbu to Sarzing (6- 7 hr). Short excursion. Camp
9.8. On foot to Urgyen Dzong, a meditation cave of Guru Rinpotche.
3- 4 h climbing up through a narrow ravine. Evening camp in Sarzing
10.8. Move camp to Phokar (3- 4 hr). Visit Phokar monastery
11.8. Walk to Sapi. Crossing Sapi-la pass, 4500 m, (6 hr walk)
Camp in Sapi village (4000 m)
12.8. Day in Sapi village. Collecting plants around the village
13.8. From Sapi village to Sapi Spong Lungs (5- 6 hr walk). Camp (4020 m)
14.8. Full day excursion. Collecting plants at the Rusi-la pass (4800 m)
15.8. Full day excursion to lake Sapi (ca. 4500 m). Collecting plants on the way
16.8. Move camp to Drag Kar monastery (6 hr). Collect plants on the way
17.8. Amchi Tsewang will treat the villagers nearby the monastery.
We will be able to participate and watch diagnosis and treatment
18.8. Walk from Drak kar to the small village Choskor (4- 5 hr). Camp
19.8. Choskor to Kannor (4- 5 hr walk)
20.8. By bus to Lamayuru monastery (6- 7 hr). Visit Maitreya in Mulbekh, a large statue of the future Buddha carved in a rock. Camp in Lamayuru
21.8. Return to Leh by bus (6- 7hr). Visit Alchi monastery on the way
22.8. Concluding day in Leh. Party
23.8. onward, people got some free time to stay in Leh on their own. We will help to arrange accommodation
27.8. Flights are booked from Leh to Delhi. Alternatively, people can travel by road to Delhi. This is a fascinating but tough trip on one of the worlds highest motorable roads
