Yes, there is also alcohol in Ladakh, and also people who are having too much of it...

Occasionally when travelling with Amchi Tsewang we got bottles of chang - Tibetan barley beer - given by the villagers to honour his efforts in treating them. This stuff tastes great but may have disastrous effects on the not too well adapted intestinal system of western people. Thus I personally prefer what they call "Arrak" locally. It is distilled from chang, contains some 20 to 30 percent of alcohol and is free from short term harmful effects besides hangovers....
